I recently participated in Festival of Tables, a fundraiser for the Memorial Medical Center’s Women’s Imaging Center. Here is my entry, a tablescape titled “Summer Dinner by the Garden.”
So much fun! Here is the description of my tablescape that was listed in the program:
Doris Gerkowski, Janet Miller, and I presented a dinner for eight–“Summer Dinner by the Garden”–after selling the dinner at P.E.O. chapter FQ’s annual auction in the fall of 2007. Janet and Doris planned the menu and made the meal, I designed the tablescape, and the guests dined in Doris’ lush, colorful garden when the purchased “package” came to fruition in July 2008.
Today’s tablescape is a recreation of that romantic summer dinner and was inspired by Mary Carol Garrity, a syndicated columnist, author, and proprietor of stores containing fine home goods. The black and white bird plates, black wooden bird tray, white pair of birds, and white, metal candle holder were purchased at Mary Carol’s flagship (and my favorite!) store, Nell Hill’s, located Atchison, Kansas. These items are regularly sprinkled throughout my living and dining rooms. The black dishes layered on the gold chargers belong to Janet, and the crystal, flatware, and vases belong to Doris. The glass compotes, silver frames, and all other decorative pieces were purchased locally.
P.S. Doris was instrumental in putting the table together. She rode with me to the hotel and helped assemble the tablescape (early!) the morning of the event. She also purchased the napkins and the glass compotes. She even rummaged for daisies to fill the vases on the side of the road the day before!
